31dc: day five: blue

once again i am a fair-weather fan. the warriors won again last night and this city is pretty excited – it’s hard not to get caught up in that.

for this mani i used my trusty ol’ temporary tattoo paper. i knew there was no way i was going to get anywhere near the warriors logo so played it safe. i had thought about just doing their colors but decided if i can’t challenge myself during this 31dc – i never will.

my middle finger is painted to look like a basketball using china glaze unplugged and spoiled don’t be cheesy. unfortunately when i went to put in the texture of the bball it covered a lot of the rubber lines that i had drawn in. i like this macro shot because you can still see them :)

here’s another macro shot – so pretty! as you can see – even with the printer not all of the logo showed up. on the three nonaccent nails i used a really pretty new textured polish lots of lux by essie.

one last picture. i am very happy with this mani. and so timely too!

avengers unite!

oh man – this was such a fun manicure. i love comic book movies! i also love how much attention these got over the past few days. working in retail a lot of people see my hands and i got a lot of compliments and questions. one of my favorite things is when someone asks where i got my nails done and then the shock on their face when i tell them i did them myself.

avengers avengers

this is how each hand started. i had it planned out which avenger was going on which finger and painted a color that was representative of them.

the logos were originally going to be done by hand. some of them would have been easy. but there are a few that were just never going to look good. so i went to my trusty temporary tattoo paper and printed them out. i sorta felt like it was cheating but i don’t even care because they turned out so well! not to brag, but my nails turned out just as awesome as the movie!

tried something new today and i think it worked out really well!

snakeskini started out with an orange and green gradient. weird right?

snakeskinafter the polish was completely dry i applied a temporary tattoo to each nail. i had purchased this printable tattoo paper for my friends circus wedding – my original idea was to be the tattooed lady. i ended up being their fortune teller and my mom went as the snake charmer. i had printed this snake skin for her nails but we ran out of time.

snakeskinhere’s a close up of the tattoo applied to the nail. the hard thing about this paper is that once it’s applied it’s like a sticker – not like a traditional temporary tattoo that you buy in vending machines or whatever. it’s still like a piece of paper. so once i got to this point i had to take an exacto knife and cut off the paper that was outside my nail. tedious to say the least.

snakeskinbut i’m not upset about it because they turned out really well. this is definitely something i will try again.
