RuPolished – Oh My Gaga

i finally just saw episode one of rupaul’s drag race season 9! honestly this whole thing has been a let down. it starts out with the show now being on vh1 and the fact that it pretty much does not exist online ANYWHERE!! tv networks need to realize that many people are moving away from cable, and if they want our business then they’re going to have to make show available to us (i pay for 3 different tv services and am willing to sit through commercials for the many networks that provide their content for free).

anyway – i finally found a friend with cable and it seems i will be bugging him every week to get my fix.

the other big disappointment was the show itself. i know it’s early, but i didn’t really like any of the workroom or runway outfits (btw – that new runway is awful! where are they going to lip-synch for their lives?!) and i didn’t really like any of the girls.

i’m going to keep watching and hopefully it’ll get better, but i’m worried – i watched america’s next top model for 22 seasons and when (for the 23rd) it moved to vh1, the set-up, judges and contestents were so… blah… that i didn’t even finish the season. i hope and pray that this same fate won’t befall drag race.

anyway, rant over. kind of. the design i did on my nails was farrah moan’s workroom entry outfit. i chose this one because (besides being easy to paint) i both liked and disliked it. i liked it because it’s just a chain and panties (i liked the potential here). but i disliked it because it could have been so much more. and why on earth did you wear tighty whities?!?! it either needed to be nude panties so it looked like she was completely nekked or a fun color or lace or something to be sexy. this just looked like she stole some little boys underwear from the laundromat on her way in…

ncu – anti-valentine

he loves me… he loves me not…

that’s the theme of my “anti-valentine’s” prompt today. i don’t love valentine’s day, but i also don’t hate it. like most other holidays in my life i’m indifferent to it (holidays really only get my approval if i get the day off of work and/or get to dress up!). so when thinking of what to paint i did some google searching. there’s a lot of valentine’s day hate out there! dang. a lot of it is broken hearts and taking-back-the-day-from-corporate-greed-mongers-who-are-guilting-people-into-sales-based-on-chocolatey-professions-of-love-all-while-alienating-single-people.

valentine’s day is doing the most!

so i thought of something that is still cute but could potentially be anti: the hope of true love through divine intervention and plucking of flower petals. so each of my fingers is less one flower petal. and just like when doing this in real life the outcome is based on where you start and where you end. is first plucked petal a “he loves me” or a “he loves me not”? so this could either be a manicure in favor of valentines day or against. ;)

ncu - anti-valentine | @bulletnails

for the mani itself i started with one of my favorite sparkly holo’s as a base coat and on my silcone mat did a gradient from yellow to orange. when that dried i cut it up (above pic) and glued them on to my nails. i should have tried to alternate the colors more, but i thought the layering would make each petal stand out more than it did.

ncu – gold & silver

really wanted to use some gold foil that i had laying around my house for this prompt. i’d never done it before so wasn’t sure how it would work. gold foil is sort of hard to work with but i really love the shiny real gold look that it creates. i’ve used it on multiple occasions for crafty stuff and really want to find a way to incorporate it into some of my furniture!

ncu - gold & silver | @bulletnails

for the mani i place the foil onto the slightly tacky silver layer. i had already cut the foil to the V shape and after it was stuck on just had to clean up the edges. because it’s so thin it ripped fairly easily, and even the simple act of pressing it into the polish caused tears and wrinkles. so i decided to cover the edges and create a design with some striping tape. it also adds a nice pop of color.

ncu - gold & silver | @bulletnails

once i put a top coat on over the design and foil it got really crinkly. i had a feeling this would happen and have read other similar reviews. but the striping tape peels off to easily if not topcoated. so i went with it. it doesn’t look bad but i really wanted the smooth “gold brick” look.

ncu – ugly sweater

i had an “ugly christmas sweater” party a few weekends ago. i was really pumped to make my own sweater. i bought a bunch of gaudy stuff from michael’s and was ready to go to town and make this the most ridiculous sweater ever. but then i guess my designer brain took over. i made the sweater while watching christmas movies, only half paying attention to each task. once a few hours had gone by and i had glued so many sequins i could no longer see straight, i took a look at my “ugly” sweater and it was way to orderly and kinda cute! dangit! i guess that’s the designer in me – i can’t seem to make things ugly ;)

so my nails ended up not-so-ugly to match my not-so-ugly sweater! very simple, as usual, but i just tried to get the basics of my sweater onto my nails.

ncu - ugly sweater | @bulletnails

ncu - ugly sweater | @bulletnails

i really love the plaid ribbon accent nail. i used a peel off base coat like modge podge (it’s practically just elmer’s glue anyway). i applied the base coat and stuck a piece of ribbon on while wet. then did another coat right over the top. once it dried i trimmed it up and applied a top coat. and voila – holiday ribbon nail art :) and it’s so cute close up!!

26gnai – blue and silver

starting a new challenge with crumpet’s nail tarts today. this time it’s way simpler – and only every other week. that’s good and bad. some of the challenges were… well… challenging. but some of them got my brain going and i created some really cool stuff. and being only twice a month gives me a chance to do some other stuff just for fun, but i worry that i’ll get lazy. i guess we’ll see what happens.

the first challenge was simple blue and silver. i have this really nice “satin” textured navy and outlined it with a “liquid chrome” silver color. i have mixed feelings about this outline design. i’ve never really liked it when i’ve done this style before. and i’ve never really liked it when i’ve seen it on other people. yet here i am again. i want to like it. i just don’t know that i do.

26gnai - blue and silver | @bulletnails

well, i don’t hate it. the chrome polish went on really smoothly – i got some nice thin, straight lines because of that. i like the colors. i like the texture. so okay. i think the thing that bothers me about the design is that it makes my (and everyone else’s) fingernails look small. i have trouble growing my nails out very far. no matter what i do they always break and are typically about the same length. it’s like my hair – no matter how long i let it grow it only seems to get to a certain point. so i don’t want to make them look any shorter. also because i have a pretty big curve to my nails the line pretty much disappear on the sides.

Great Nail Art Ideas – books

i have been waiting for this one for ages! i’m a big reader – i have a 3-4 hour a day commute and, while not a fast reader, i go through a lot of books. which made this prompt both easy and hard. easy because i have so much inspiration. hard because how do i narrow it down?!

so i went with freshest in my mind. i just finished reading the second book in victoria aveyard’s red queen series glass sword. i have a bad habit of starting a book and then finding out it’s part of a series. that was the case with this series. i flew through the first book – such an interesting yet familiar concept. then found out it was part of a trilogy. a trilogy not yet finished! ugh! those are the worst. all i want to do is finish the story but now i have to wait until february to find out what happens.

here’s a synopsis of the red queen (book one in the series):

This is a world divided by blood – red or silver.

The Reds are commoners, ruled by a Silver elite in possession of god-like superpowers. And to Mare Barrow, a seventeen-year-old Red girl from the poverty-stricken Stilts, it seems like nothing will ever change.

That is, until she finds herself working in the Silver Palace. Here, surrounded by the people she hates the most, Mare discovers that, despite her red blood, she possesses a deadly power of her own. One that threatens to destroy the balance of power.

Fearful of Mare’s potential, the Silvers hide her in plain view, declaring her a long-lost Silver princess, now engaged to a Silver prince. Despite knowing that one misstep would mean her death, Mare works silently to help the Red Guard, a militant resistance group, and bring down the Silver regime.

But this is a world of betrayal and lies, and Mare has entered a dangerous dance – Reds against Silvers, prince against prince, and Mare against her own heart.

i think that describes my mani better than i could! the characters are divided by blood – red and silver. so with my design i tried to make it look from one direction like red blood dripping and from the other like silver blood dripping.

40gnai - books | @bulletnails

i think it turned out pretty close to what i was imagining. since there’s no actual thing as silver blood i think it’s hard to think of the silver part as the drippy part – the red bloodiness just stands out so much.

40gnai - books | @bulletnails

i also got to use my new chrome powder on this mani! i have been searching what feels like my whole life for an actual chrome polish. while this isn’t perfect (might be my technique) it’s so much closer than anything i’ve encountered before. i will definitely be trying to work it in to more designs!

Great Nail Art Ideas – orange + geometric

i wasn’t too excited for this one – but i really like what i ended up with! i think i was intimidated by the “geometric” label – thinking i was going to have to do something super intricate or math…

40gnai - orange + geometric | @bulletnails

luckily neither was necessary :) i did a really simple asymmetrical color block – because squares are part of geometry right?! i love the grey to counteract the orange, the silver to add some sparkle and the matte to make the whole thing more subtle. i sorta lucked into this one!

40gnai - orange + geometric | @bulletnails

in person these contrast a lot more against my skin. i think my lighting setup needs some work – i’m really not that orange skinned!

40gnai - yellow & silver + gradient | @bulletnails
Image

Great Nail Art Ideas – yellow & silver + gradient

i struggled here! yellow and silver did not mix well for me! i tried doing a sponge gradient that ended up an ugly mess (the mixed part in the middle was a really matte brownish green). i tried painting them yellow and sponging on silver. i tried painting them silver and sponging on yellow. all of it ended up looking poopy (literally).

40gnai - yellow & silver + gradient | @bulletnails

so instead of relying on the normal definition of gradient i was forced to think outside of the box. which is actually really good for me. i love gradients and they’re probably my most used technique but they’re all technically the same.

40gnai - yellow & silver + gradient | @bulletnails

so for my yellow and silver gradient i decided to make a half-tone pattern or bubbles or rain or something. i used a few different sized dotting tools and just went crazy. and i love how it turned out! the yellow is super bright (and makes me look really tan) and really makes the chromey silver really stand out. really simple but took a lot of creative thinking to get here!

40gnai - coral/white + ikat | @bulletnails
Image

Great Nail Art Ideas – coral & white + ikat

another color plus design week. i’ve done ikat once before and i really liked it – it was easy to do, hard to mess up and looks fancy/complicated. i realized after doing this one that it also has a lot to do with color choices. i like the coral and white combo but i needed another color. i debated between silver, gold and navy. as you can see i went with the silver. which i’m happy with. i think i would have liked the navy better but i was worried that it would overshadow the actual colors i was supposed to use this week.

the white i used is a very shimmery pretty color. but super translucent. i thought starting with a base coat of that would be enough, but as my design started taking shape i realized i was going to have to go in for some touch-ups and a bit of added white in the middles. ugh. i had to use an opaque white then cover it with the shimmery white. the middle of each diamond is sitting like three inches off my nail – there’s so much polish!

40gnai - coral/white + ikat | @bulletnails

it’s cute though. i think they colors make it look very dainty, which is nice because i don’t typically do dainty. i like the nails that have a diamond on the top and bottom of the nail rather than the ones with it in the middle. you see more of the coral and the overall pattern on those.

i hate that i forget about this design until it pops up in a challenge. it’s so quick and easy – i should be doing it more often!

Great Nail Art Ideas – hot pink + mermaid scale

since drag race is over but i’m used to doing more than one mani a week, i’ve decided to jump on the second half of the crumpet’s nail tarts challenge: a color prompt plus an assigned style. since i’m not officially on that list i don’t have an assigned style so i’ll probably just pick and choose :)

40gnai - hot pink + mermaid scales | @bulletnails

this week’s prompt was hot pink and i had an idea for mermaid scales a while back that i’ve been wanting to try. everyone seems to use stamping for mermaid scales but i suck at stamping so my big idea was to use my dotting tool and add the scales individually. i really like how it turned out – i think it would have been slightly better with one or two more colors – then the pattern wouldn’t have overlapped as much.

40gnai - hot pink + mermaid scales | @bulletnails

i also decided to show how i touch up my photos. i try to never mess with the actual manicure, but i just can’t seem to get all the polish off of my cuticles or to keep them from being dry and gross. so i touch them up. nobody wants to see dry cuticles. and i don’t want anyone focusing on my bad clean up job when i work so hard on the art.

i wonder how much or if anyone else touches up their photos. sometimes i see people’s photos and can’t believe their hands are so perfect! well, now you know mine aren’t ;)

RuPolished – Election Year

i really liked this week’s challenge. i liked the pairings (i was worried about bob and derrick – way to werk it out!). i liked the runway looks.

rupaul's drag race S08E07 | black and white realness runway inspirationthe runway was black and white realness – inspired by this amazing look from detox during her season’s finale episode. i remember when i first saw a picture of her in this outfit/makeup – i just assumed i was looking at a black and white photo. then the episode came out and i was blown away!

so i’m really glad they used this as a challenge. not everyone did very good with it (why was naomi so blue – and did derrick put any makeup on?

rupaul's drag race S08E07 | bob the drag queen black and white realness runway inspired mani

the most surprising thing to me was how beautiful bob looked. i don’t know why – she’s dressed up as a clown – but i think she looks so feminine and soft. and super fun! i only wish her hair was a little more extremely white – rather than just really light blonde.

rupaul's drag race S08E07 | bob the drag queen black and white realness runway inspired mani

so i started by painting my nails white. then on three fingers i painted half black then went to town with my dotting tools. i tried to make the dots line up (index) but that was too much hassle so i gave up. i actually like them not lining up better anyway.

rupaul's drag race S08E07 | bob the drag queen black and white realness runway inspired mani

i painted the silver accent to match bob’s makeup (looked a little more silvery than just flat grey). and then came the hard nail. the diamonds. i used a striping brush and did the outlines in black, then filled them in. but with that technique the white parts were disproportionate. any other time i would have left it – but since i was trying to match i went back in with a striping brush, dotting tools and other small brushes. let’s just say there is a lot of polish on my middle finger!

eventually though – it got to what i was imagining and i am very happy with it :)

metallic fishtail

i really liked my last fishtail, so i decided to try another one this week. i got a shipment of model’s own polish a while back and still hadn’t used this coppery color that i had been most excited about. unfortunately the color didn’t turn out as awesome as i had hoped. next time i use it i’ll have to do more layers (hopefully to make it more copper than gold) and/or do more of a basecoat (white or maybe brown?).

i also ended up doing 5 colors in my fishtail, but this was solely to break up the monotone that i had going once my first three colors were down (the copper, gold and silver). i liked the pink splash so ended up changing the solid color on my other three fingers to match that instead.

metal fishtail | @bulletnails

overall i like this technique – i’ve gotten a lot of compliments (because it looks complicated) and is still easy to do. it just takes a long time for all those layers to dry!

Superbowl 50!

this weekend is the superbowl. i don’t watch football. but! this year it’s happening in my backyard (not literally) and it’s hard not to get caught up in the collective fangasm going on all over the place right now.

superbowl 50 | @bulletnails

on top of the hoopla happening here in san francisco, one of the teams is from my last city – denver. not being a big sports fan in general, i tend to just adopt whatever team is in my hometown. i grew up in nebraska where there were no professional sports, but i was a husker (university of nebraska) fan by default. i think that defaultness has stuck with me. so the broncos are still my team (as are the rockies, rapids etc.) plus i’ve gained the giants, 49ers, warriors etc. some may call this bandwagoning, but whatever.

superbowl 50 | @bulletnailsanyway – back to the mani :) i had this idea to represent the actual game – so i have both endzones, the field and footballs that can literally move up and down the field. it’s cute and i ended up really liking it! the footballs actually have a football texture that i haven’t been able to stop touching! to do these i started with a nice dark brown polish, then used a dotting tool with some clear gel polish to add the bumps. once cured under my lamp i painted another coat of brown and added the laces. the only hiccup that i ran into on the whole mani was with the matte polish here. it totally smeared the white polish of the laces 😭 in the closeup you can see the before and after. the brown looks so much more football-like in the matte version (obviously except for the smeary).

superbowl 50 | @bulletnails

i really like this manicure. it turned out just as i had pictured it in my head. that in and of itself is a big win but hopefully the broncos will have a win too and all will be well with the world!

40 Great Nail Art Ideas – “your job”

this was a fun but very last minute mani! my life has been a bit of a whirlwind lately (in a good way) and i just didn’t get time for this manicure until late last night :(

40gnai - job

i would have liked to spend some more time on this and even out the letters and stuff – but otherwise i think it’s cute!

40gnai - jobso if you don’t know – these are design applications and i’m a graphic designer. so we have indesign for page layout, illustrator for vector artwork (think type and logos etc) and photoshop for, well photoshopping ;) the thumb and pinky are silver with an apple logo to represent my imac that i do my design work on, and my “day job” at the apple store.

also fun story – last night i was watching the movie jobs about steve jobs, founder of apple computers, while painting my jobs themed nails about working at apple. i’m confused ;) but totally a subconscious pick movie-wise!

halloween part 3

tincturescan you tell yet that i love halloween? today’s manicure was inspired by my halloween party bar from last year. i had decorated all the alcohol bottles with fun witchy / spooky / halloween labels. it was so cute! some of the bottles are actually still decorated like this (some partly because i no longer remember what alcohol is in the bottle!). for my mani i found some cute designs on etsy and made some nail stickers using my trusty temporary tattoo paper.

tinctures

i had to squeeze and squish the designs a lot to fit on my nails. they’re pretty small, but not entirely unreadable. i tried to focus on fitting and centering the the image, then the title and then whatever else fit.

tincturestincturesi started with a coat of spoiled i’m so jaded and added brush strokes of kbshimmer pt. young thing. then a few coats of wet n wild glo’ money, glo’ problems glow in the dark polish. and finally the temp tattoos. my nails look really cool in the dark – but i have not figured out how to capture them on camera! i read a few blogs about photographing glow in the dark manicures, but it just seems like no matter what i do, i just get black or at the most, blurry photos (ie image below).

tinctures

you can kinda see here that the tattoos do a nice job of blacking out part of the glow so the design is just as cool in the dark as it is in the light (sorry but you might have to use your imagination!!).

i like these. the tattoo paper is aways nice to be able to do complex designs in a small space and not to have to spend an inordinate amount of time. if i were to do these again the only thing i would do different would be to use a more parchment-y color scheme than the green and silver.

new iphones

today was the release of the iphone 6s and 6s plus. i had a lovely 10 hour shift but somehow still managed not to sell a single iphone. last year my record was about three months. we’ll see what this year brings.

6sbesides all the actual work stuff, i painted my nails to match the new colors of the phones. my “rose gold” isn’t quite right but i think it’s okay for never having seen the color in person before!

6s

i tried doing the waterfall technique. i’m not a huge fan of how it turned out, but after doing it once i feel like the next time i have some ideas of how to improve it. colors used: mentality marmalade, sally hansen wedding glitters, sally hansen celeb city, spoiled black mamba.

tanicure

i’m so tan! it probably doesn’t seem like a big deal to most people – it’s summer, everyone’s tan. except i live in san francisco. nobody is tan here! we only get to see the sun as a blurry bright spot in the fog.

IMG_8374anyway i got back from my amazing trip to hawaii and found out that i have 5 days off in a row over labor day weekend (especially amazing because i work in retail!). i had originally though of going back to hawaii because, why not. and as tempting as that was (and still is), i’ve decided to go to dallas instead. the flights are about the same price and about the same time commitment and if those were the only factors i would be on my way back over the ocean. but alas, dallas has something hawaii doesn’t. three things actually: a house that i can stay in free of charge, a car (my mini!) and my sister. so off to dallas i will be going for a vacation from these arduous last 6 days of working ;)

my nails had indeed chipped while i was in hawaii so i did another cute bright manicure for my trip to texas. i just can’t stop staring at it – it looks so awesome and vibrant against my tan! haha – it’s weird what you miss once you get a taste of it again! colors used: pop ablaze (my new fave color!), essie sunday funday, maybeline pink shock, and for the chevrons the always beautiful kbshhimmer in pt young thing.

textured stamping

i went bowling the other day. bowling is really bad for my nails. i broke both thumb- and index nails. i also ruined my gradient manicure in the process. so it didn’t last very long :(

texture stampthis was my quick redo. i really like the base coat (essie lots of lux), it has a nice texture and is a wonderful dark / royal blue. the stamping was, once texture stampagain, a bit of an experiment. i used claire’s liquid metal in dime a dozen for the stamp. it has really nice coverage – the pattern shows up really nicely. but i think it’s too liquidy for stamping. i had a lot of polish left on the plate after scraping, which left little shadows around the pattern (notice the pinky nail on the main photo). fortunately you don’t notice the bad stamping job too much in everyday life.

31dc: day twenty: water marble

i tried a few different methods of water marbling this time. i really like water marbling and again, it’s just one of those things i haven’t quite mastered. my colors don’t ever disperse as nice as they do in the youtube tutorials.

31dc watermarblei used my kbshimmer pt young thing for the base coat and sally hansen fuchsia power, gunmetal and invisible for the water marble. on my ring finger i tried the marble without the invisible because when i dropped that in the water it spread out sooo much – reducing the other colors to super thin lines. but when i did it without it completely covered up the holo.

31dc watermarble

i really like my middle finger. this actually came about after i started creating a pattern and it was all sticking to my needle. i gave up and was just swooshing it all around trying to get the needle to pick everything up and thought, hey that’s a better pattern than i get when i’m trying. so maybe not trying is my key to success here ;)

31dc: day 8: (glam) metal

okay so this prompt originally called for metallic but i just couldn’t get metal out of my mind. at first i was going to do diamond plate, but i couldn’t get the music genre out of my mind. as my mind wandered i eventually ended up with kiss. they’re very iconic and would be easy to recognize (and not super hard to draw).

avengers unite!

oh man – this was such a fun manicure. i love comic book movies! i also love how much attention these got over the past few days. working in retail a lot of people see my hands and i got a lot of compliments and questions. one of my favorite things is when someone asks where i got my nails done and then the shock on their face when i tell them i did them myself.

avengers avengers

this is how each hand started. i had it planned out which avenger was going on which finger and painted a color that was representative of them.

avengers avengers

the logos were originally going to be done by hand. some of them would have been easy. but there are a few that were just never going to look good. so i went to my trusty temporary tattoo paper and printed them out. i sorta felt like it was cheating but i don’t even care because they turned out so well! not to brag, but my nails turned out just as awesome as the movie!

this was a fun experiment. in the stamping kit that i got a while ago there was a great print that looks like butterfly wings. my original thought was to go for the obvious and do a yellow and orange monarch look but i just got this great silver holographic polish in the mail and really wanted to use it. overall i think the colors are great but i am still struggling with stamping! all these tutorials i watch everyone seems so proficient. maybe i’m trying to hard, or using the wrong polish or expecting too much. butterfly2

the stamp on these nails looks clean and a rich dark black but don’t be fooled – it’s sharpied! the stamp was originally so translucent and in some places almost non-existent that i would have either had to take all the polish off and do it again, or (as i decided to do) just trace over all the stamp with a fine tip sharpie. it was a lot more work than i planned on for this manicure but the result is good and i guess any practice with stamping can only make me better. butterfly3

the process for this manicure started out with a really unique polish that i got from claire’s/the icing. its called liquid metal and it’s very solid and shiny – i thought it would make a good base coat. the thing that’s unusual with this polish is that it dries almost immediately and is more like a paint pen than nail polish. i still haven’t decided if i like it or not, but a good buy nonetheless. next was my pretty new “pt young thing” holographic polish from kbshimmer on etsy. so pretty! lastly came the stamp in black with a whole bunch of colors sponged on top.

iphone 6

iphone_2so, i work at the apple store. it’s hard right now not to get caught up in the energy of the new phone launch. in honor of the 6 (and the + even though i think it’s too big) i decided to paint my nails with a gradient of space grey, gold and silver. haha. to give it a bit more techie feel i stamped a little circuit design on a few nails. i’m still struggling with the stamp a bit. i don’t know if it was the stamp or the polish. but more than once it dried before i could even get it from the plate to the stamp. and it’s not like i was going slow. more practice is needed but i hate redoing my nails so much. i see so many such-and-such-number a day challenges – i just couldn’t do it! first i don’t have time. second, like i’ve mentioned before, i spent all this time – i want it to last. i want to be able

iphone_3 to show it off! so it will probably be a while before i’m actually good with the stamp but i can wait : ) i love the first picture above: this is the ‘during’ photo where i had done the gradient but hadn’t peeled off the glue yet (you can see it peeling up a little on my thumb). i really do like this gradient – the silver is a little hard to see but overall the whole thing is really pretty. yay iphone colors!

UPDATE: i worked like 17 hours at apple today (get that OT!). i did the overnight setup for the new phones which was super fun. then i stayed because it’s always crazy and i wanted to watch! while i was there i snapped a few pics of my nails with the new phones which are way too big for me, but apple definitely knows what they’re doing: these are gorgeous phones and feel really great.

rainbow

apple2i work at apple. it’s a really interesting place to work. for many reasons. right now is their 30th anniversary / birthday of the mac. every employee is wearing these special 30 shirts to commemorate. i love the rainbow (and miss the old rainbow logo). so i thought i’d get in on the rainbow train and paint my nails to match. i wanted lots of colors on my nails. i picked 5 different polishes and ended up with about 15 different colors. what i did was start with a base coat of each color per nail. once those were dry i took the base from each finger and appleadded to the top of the one next to it. and i did the opposite to the other hand. so in the pic on the right my index got a yellow base and the the middle got the yellow as the accent. the pic on the left my middle got yellow base with the index getting the yellow accent. it seems a little complicated but it was pretty quick and easy. and i love how the different layerings came out with such different colors. i like the left picture the best (except for the index). the color layers on the right are too subtle.

candy canes

i tried to do something christmasy without being super obvious. but i wish i had been more literal with this one. i wanted it to look like the candy cane stripes were continuing from finger to finger but they’re just too big. i probably needed 3 stripes per finger for it to easily read as candy canes. oh well, there’s always next year.

john legend!

johnlegend2oh man. best night of my life. last night i went and saw john legend at the paramount in oakland. *swoon* i got a front row ticket. i saw sound check. got a picture with the man himself. and i gave him a poster that i made for him (and he signed a copy for me!). oh gosh i can’t even contain myself right now. anyway the way this pertains to this blog is i had updated my nails for the concert. on top of the silver gradient that i already had, i added purple to make it stand out more. unfortunately i didn’t take an actual picture of my hands – so we’ll all have to make due with the one i took of my peace sign and the little glimpse we get from my hand on john’s shoulder *double swoon*

well it’s off to turkey time – happy thanksgiving!!
