ncu – sweets

so i gave up “sweets” for the month of february. just to see if i had the willpower to do so, to see if after not eating them if i would still crave them, and hopefully to loose some weight. well i did, i still do (but not as much) and i did. so success. a month later and it’s easier to not have sweets very often. i have been able to choose healthier snacks (apples are my current favorite) and hopefully i will be able to keep up with this.

during this no-sweets-february – chocolate was the hardest thing to live without. so i am paying homage to all the chocolate that i did not eat in february, and hopefully nails-that-look-like-chocolate will be enough to not eat it too much now either ;)

i used three different colors on top, i was thinking white chocolate caramel and dark chocolate. and the base would be milk chocolate.

okay, i’ve got to stop writing about this before i talk myself into finding a candybar…

colors used: homemade brown frankenpolish, essie partners in crime, mentality marmalade, sinful colors social ladder.

26gnai – spring animals

this week’s theme is spring animals. at a loss for something to paint i googled it. and ohmygoodness i died looking at all the super cute baby animals that popped up on my screen!!

unfortunately i knew i would never be able to do justice hand painting these cute little furry friends, and i’m assuming there will be a lot of stamping going on this week, but i neither have stamps that apply nor the skills to make it happen.

so i stuck with what i’m comfortable with – simplifying! each nail is a different baby animal. can you tell what they are?

ncu – fall foliage

this was a simple fan brush manicure. i haven’t actually done one before but it ended up really nice. the gold really sets it off.

there’s not much to say about this design… i don’t know why i’ve never done this style before but i will definitely do it again :)

ncu – coffee

i’ve decided to join another nail art challenge (since crumpets an every other week challenge this year) that will happen on opposite weeks. so now i will have a challenge every friday. as worried as i am about finding time for it, i think this new challenge (nail crazies unite) has some themes that speak to me a little more so hopefully will get my creative juices flowing.

ncu - coffee | @bulletnails

anyway this past friday was their first prompt. and having just been accepted i did one today! the theme is coffee. i can only drink decaf because caffeine gives me migraines and what really is the point of coffee if not caffeine. so i don’t really drink it. but when i do it’s such a light shade of brown that some people wonder if there’s actually any coffee in it.

so that’s where my design came from. the amounts of ingredients i use when having a cup of coffee. it kinda reminds me of an infographic – i’ve seen some really cool ones for cocktail ingredients done this way.

i think this is a really fun & funny way to make a coffee mani. i love that it’s super not obvious that it’s coffee :)

colors used: sinful colors tokyo pearl, essie partner in crime, sally hansen pearly whites, opi muppets world tour, and kiss spa10 silver glitter.

Great Nail Art Ideas – music

this weeks theme brought a lot of inspiration into this little brain of mine! i had three different ideas and wasn’t sure how to narrow it down. two of the designs were similar so i figured i could eliminate one of those pretty easy. and then i decided i had two hands so would do both of the others!

40gnai - music | @bulletnails

my first inspiration was playing music. i took piano lessons as a child. i was in band in middle and high school (played french horn, clarinet and trumpet). and have tried picking up the guitar a dozen or so times – little hands and long nails haven’t been very helpful here.

so i made guitar nails :) i had glittery nails from the crown mani i did earlier in the week and was reticent to remove it. so i worked it in to the new design as the strings. if i were to do this design again my accent nail would have been more of a circle of black with brown around it rather than being all black (to be more obviously the hole in the guitar).

my second design is all about the experience of listening to music. i’ve always been a fan of the visualizers on stereos and the computer and this is supposed to mimic the waveforms of music.

40gnai - music | @bulletnails

on this one too i kept the super glitter from my last mani and added the waveforms with a nail art pen. i like the pen a lot because i’m so used to drawing with a pen but it’s super liquidy, it spreads and stains (last time i used it, it was in the crack between my nail and finger for over a week!). so this time i made sure to keep it away from my skin.

RuPolished – Wizards of Drag

rupaul's drag race S08E06 | naomi smalls wizards of drag runway inspired mani

this weeks drag race was the dress-somebody-else-up-in-drag episode. it was fun – they had ladies from little women LA as their somebody-else which was a good change from the macho men they usually have.

the main challenge involved each queen having to dress up herself and her little lady (as chi chi kept calling them) as a character from the wizard of oz.

i think my favorite outfit of the night was todrick hall, who was on the show as a judge – not a contestant. i just like him in general anyway, but he killed it as the wizard (if that’s what he was going for. and i assume he was).

unfortunately – green sequins and sharp angles are awesome on a suit, but not too interesting on (or easy to translate to) a manicure. so i went with my second favorite outfit: naomi smalls and jasmine. i thought it was a really clever take on the scarecrow – like the yellow brick road meets haute couture. good job naomi!

RuPolished – RuCo’s Empire

week 3 of rupaul’s drag race brought back a contestant, featured some (great) overacting, and the first ever runway in rollerskates! the runway fashions were fun (and kinda my style – ie 80’s), but my favorite part of the show was ruco’s empire. so funny!

rupaul's drag race S08E03 | ruco's empire inspired manibob the drag queen killed it! her and her acting team were my inspiration for this week’s manicure. i tried to do the outline mani – i’ve never really liked it but thought it would work well for this look. i think it really only works if you can make the lines really thin but i had a few things working against me. 1: i didn’t have a thin enough brush, 2: my gold was too thin to show up enough (already have 2 coats on), 3: my nails are really curved so if i had been able to paint thin lines you wouldn’t probably even be able to see the lines on the sides.

i still think that this turned out pretty cute – i ain’t mad at it ;)
